If you’re on a diet you may want to stop reading now as the sweet tooth devils have been at it again and come up with a blood sugar raising cake and pie hybrid that you would be crazy to not want to try.
A Philadelphia bakery has dreamed up the ultimate dessert that has a thigh-slapping 1,800 calories a slice. The one-of-a-kind creation is pumpkin and apple pies baked in chocolate and vanilla cake, merged together and covered with buttercream icing.
The oversized autumnal flavoured cake weighs in at a monstrous 15 pounds and stands at more than 12 inches tall.
The Flying Monkey, located in Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market, has developed possibly the world’s most perfect dessert as they say it has something for all taste buds.
Taking two whole days to make, the pastry chefs start with the pies which they partially bake.
The half cooked pumpkin pie is dipped into chocolate batter and baked. The apple pie and vanilla cake batter go through the same process and is then baked on top of the chocolate cake.
It then goes into the oven for hours to ensure it gets cooked all the way through. In case it didn’t already have enough calories in the ‘super-size me’ dessert, that’s taken care of with a generous slathering of homemade buttercream icing.
Flying Monkey owner Elizabeth Halen said the pumpple cake is fast becoming their best seller.
‘We only opened about a month ago and started making the pumpple cake a week later. Now we are making the cake daily and selling out.
‘I told friends about it through my Facebook page and Twitter feed and word has spread like wildfire from there’, Halen added.
