Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, is tapping into music to spread her message against gun violence.
Fulton and gospel hip-hop artist T. Dogg collaborated to create the song, “Joy Comes in the Morning.” Fulton reached out to the musician after being inspired by another one of his songs. She said asked him to write a song about her experience, Local 6 sister station WPLG-TV in Miami reported.
“We hope the song will uplift people,” T. Dogg said. “When she asked me to write the song, I listened to her pain.”
The single aired for the first time this week on Hot 105 FM in South Florida.
Fulton says she hopes her music will inspire people.
“I wanted to do something to inspire other people, other families of senseless gun violence,” Fulton said. “I told him about it, and I told him how I was hurting and how I felt other people would be hurting as well. A loss is a loss.”
Proceeds from the sale of the CD will go toward making more copies of the song.
