REDNECK: 254 People Arrested On 305 Charges At Scheid Diesel Extravaganza In Indiana

A majority of the arrests were made during Terre Haute’s annual diesel pickup rally, the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. Police said 254 people were arrested on 305 charges during the event. More than 100 people were arrested for underage possession or consumption of alcohol, including 21 juveniles younger than 18. Additionally, 12 adults were arrested for furnishing or providing alcohol to a minor, three were arrested for operation a vehicle while intoxicated and five were arrested on drug charges.

Other people were arrested or cited for excessive exhaust or smoke, open container violations, seat belt violates and other traffic offenses.

“The goal of the state excise police is to ensure the safety of the patrons of this event and others around the state,” said Superintendent Matt Strittmatter after working with excise officers on Friday and Saturday. “In order to achieve that goal, we must continue our efforts to make certain that alcohol is consumed responsibly and lawfully.”

In Bloomington, excise officers made 93 arrests over the weekend. Fifty-six arrestees were charged with underage possession or consumption of alcohol, 20 of whom were also charged with possession of a false ID. Police arrested several others on a variety of charges, including furnishing alcohol to a minor, making a false statement and traffic violations.

Police said a 19-year-old man was transported to IU Health Bloomington with a .257 percent BAC level. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail on preliminary charges of illegal consumption and public intoxication.

Eighteen additional people were arrested in Muncie on alcohol and drug-related charges.
