About the author: Jay Kirell is a combat veteran, former reporter, and blogger based in New York. His writings have appeared in The Baltimore Sun, Newsday, The Long-Islander, Pro Wrestling Illustrated and various other outlets. He enlisted in the Army in 2010 and after a deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division, completed his enlistment and separated in the summer of 2013. He is 35, married, with a Siberian Husky named Shannon and a cat named Cammo.
